Ferragamo Ties Run about $200 a Piece but are They Worth It?

The world of fashion is a strange and funny place. Take a mens tie for example. They accent a mens outfit, while not really providing any function other than the appearance of being “nicely dressed”. You can get ties for pretty cheap, and if fashion and style are important to you, then you are going to need a large tie collection. However when you take a tie and then stamp a designers name on it, and a tag that says “Made in Italy”, suddenly you have an expensive article of clothing. This is the case for the fashion company Salvatore Ferragamo.

Salvatore Ferragamo was an Italian national who emigrated to the United States in 1914. His love of shoes caused him to open up his own shoe story in California called “Hollywood Boot Shop”. It was there that he made shoes for a variety of movie stars during the 1920’s. After being largely successful there, he returned to Italy in 1927 to open up another shoe shop which would eventually evolve into a fashion house. Today Ferragamo makes a variety of high-qualty fashion goods, yet they are still known for their shoes and accessories. They also produce a wide range of ties that have a considerable price tag of about $190 dollars per tie (without taxes).

These ties come in pretty much any color imaginable, so one is surely able to find one to match their outfit. All of the ties also have some sort pattern on them, most of which are tiny animals. The ties are made in Italy and are made from 100% silk. You can purchase the ties either through Ferragamo’s website or through other stores like Neiman Marcus, for example. The ties are really nice however one does not simply purchase one single tie. So suddenly if you purchase 5 of these ties, your bank account is about $1,000 dollars lighter. Some people think this is a waste of money, while others do not. What do you think?
