Salvatore Ferragamo S.p.A. is an Italian luxury goods company headquartered in Florence, Italy that specializes in shoes, leather goods, eyewear, watches, and ready-to-wear for men and women. The public fashion house currently has a market cap of $3.6 billion and is still owned by the Ferragamo family–Ferruccio Ferragamo is the company’s president. Salvatore Ferragamo–the company’s founder–emigrated to Hollywood and opened the Hollywood Boot Shop in 1923, where he made shoes for movie starts. Four years later, Ferragamo returned to Florence, Italy and eventually set up a shoe shop that has since become one of the world’s most iconic fashion brands. The company’s notable innovations include the wedge heel, the shell-shaped sole, the invisible sandal, metal heels and soles, and the sock-shoe, while famous clients included Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren, Greta Garbo, Andy Warhol, Margaret Thatcher, and Diana, Princess of Wales.
