Airbnb is a social networking service and mobile application that let’s regular people rent out lodging to prospective travelers. Founded in 2008 by Brian Chesky and Joe Gebbia and headquartered in San Francisco, California, Airbnb has over 500,000 listings in more than 33,000 cities and 192 countries. Before using the site, members must create an online personal profile while each property listing available for rent includes recommendations and reviews by other users and previous guests, a response rating, and a private messaging system. Airbnb provides users with the ability to save boatloads of money on their vacation accommodations. However, there are still a number of extravagant, luxurious, and pricey properties to rent.
