Will The Rumored $2.5 Million Bugatti Chiron Replace the Veyron?

Will The Rumored $2.5 Million Bugatti Chiron Replace the Veyron?

As a class of vehicle, the supercar has really come into its own over the years. Cars are just one of those things that constantly get better in terms of production, performance, technology, and whatnot. Sure classic cars are great, but a modern supercar is arguably better in almost all aspects, and are essentially the “best” cars that money can buy. We’ve seen many incredible supercars over the years that have redefined the world of automobiles, but none have had such a lasting effect as the Bugatti Veyron.

The original Bugatti brand was established in France during 1909 by Italian, Ettore Bugatti. They were known for their high-end luxury automobiles that were praised for their design and beauty. Unfortunately the brand would go out of business during the early 1960’s. Then, years later in 1998, Volkswagen AG would purchase the Bugatti name and incorporate the brand into theirs. They kept the name, and looked towards releasing a vehicle that would go down in history like the original Bugatti vehicles. Volkswagen would design a few concept cars during the early 2000’s and then in 2005 everything changed as the Bugatti Veyron was released.

The original Veyron came out and the industry never saw anything quite like it. It was classy, yet aggressive looking. Luxurious and sporty at the same time, in addition to being extremely expensive. But the most important fact was that it had a top speed of 253mph. It was the fastest, street-legal production car ever made. Bugatti would then go on to create updated models of the Veyron, constantly improving the vehicle, yet retain the same design. When it was all said and done, the brand produced just 450 vehicles in total over the course of a decade. This year we saw the last Veyron roll off the assembly line, but it’s been a good run. Bugatti would beat its own record with their Super Sport model. That Veyron is now the fastest production car of all-time with a recorded top speed of 267mph. The Veyron has made a lasting impression, but many are now wondering “what’s next”. Rumors have been flying around for awhile now, and Bugatti’s next vehicle could be the supposed “Chiron”.

When a company releases a new product, one that’s meant to “update” or “replace” and older model, consumers expect it to be better in pretty much every way. When you create the fastest production car of all-time, that’s certainly creates a lot of pressure on a brand. Bugatti will be making a new vehicle that should be released sometime within the next few years, and it will have to be better than the Veyron. While there have been no official reports as to what the next Veyron will be or what it will look like, based on the rumors floating around out there, it could be an incredible vehicle.

The next Bugatti model could potentially be called the “Chiron” and if the rumors are true, the vehicle will be absolutely nuts. Named after legendary racer Louis Chiron from Monaco, the Chrion will use most of the Veyron’s platform, however outside of that, it will be very different. To keep it light, most of the Chiron will be constructed from high-quality carbon fiber. The biggest changes will be in relation to the engine and the vehicles potential performance. It will very likely feature an 8.0-liter, W16 engine with direct fuel injection and most likely four turbochargers. Unlike other modern supercars like the LaFerrari or the Porsche 918 Spyder, the new Bugatti will most likely not be a hybrid vehicle. But that’s okay. The Chiron could very well potentially offer 1,500 horsepower in total. The most powerful Veyron ever produced “only” offered just 1,200. The Chiron will also most likely have a seven-speed, dual-clutch gearbox, all-wheel drive, and torque vectoring. All those potential features could very well mean that this car accelerates from 0-60mph in around 2.5 seconds and it could reach a top speed of 288mph, which is just absurd. There are some images of the Chiron floating out there on the internet, however they have been designed by individuals that do not work for Bugatti, and Bugatti has not officially confirmed really anything about this vehicle. Don’t let those pictures fool you as we do not know what this car will look like. Still this potential $2.5 million dollar beast could be awesome if Bugatti does release a vehicle like this one.

So at the moment, we don’t know when this new Bugatti will come out, what it will look like, or how it will perform. But if the rumors of this potential Chiron pan out to be true, the Chrion will continue the tradition of Bugatti offering the fastest production vehicles on Earth. I expect that we will hear more news about their next car sometime this year, with its launch sometime in the next three or so years. For the time being, we will have to wait, but the future of the Bugatti brand is certainly very bright.
