The original McLaren P1 is arguably one of the most impressive hypercars that money can buy. This million dollar plus vehicle combines the most advanced technology available in a automobile to give the driver and incredible experience like no other. The P1 uses both a massive V8 engine and an electric motor to power itself at incredible speeds. When you combine that with the cars chassis, the transmission, and how it handles, its pretty impressive. However McLaren felt that they could do better, so the are preparing to release the all new McLaren P1 GTR at the Geneva Auto Show this year.
McLaren put a lot of work into the P1 to make it amazing, however there are “unfortunately” various rules that car manufactures must follow to make sure their cars are road legal. So McLaren is turning the volume up to 11 with the P1 GTR, and its shaping up to be amazing. They ignored all the road-legal rules with this car, so while you cannot legally drive it on public roads, it will be a beast on the track.
The original P1 has a few limiters on the vehicle to curb its performance, and McLaren have scraped all of those and increased the power of this new P1 GTR. The P1 GTR will have 986bhp, an impressive increase over the street legal version. McLaren promises that this new vehicle should attain a 0-60mph time of just 2.8 seconds which is a truly incredible feat. The P1 GTR also has other improvements: there’s even more carbon fiber to make it lighter, theres a massive Formula 1 inspired spoiler, an ERS kinetic recovery system, and they have slightly altered the bodywork to make the car more aerodynamic, in addition to many other improvements. The result is an amazing sounding track car that will surely be a great contender against all willing to challenge it.
More information on the vehicle should be made clear at the Geneva Auto Show this year, but from what we know so far this car will certainly be one to watch. Unfortunately it will be very difficult to buy. McLaren is only offering the P1 GTR to people who already own the original P1, which of course is sold-out. Also since the car is not street legal, McLaren holds onto the car when you aren’t using it, and you have to pass a rigorous class from McLaren to learn how to drive this animal should you choose to but one.
