Sotheby’s Partners with Ebay for Live Online Auction Site

Ebay and Sotheby's

For the longest time auction houses dominated their industry as they were one of the best means for people to bet on used or rare items, and they still are. But then eBay was created and this new online auction site took the world by storm allowing anyone from all over the world to sell a variety of things themselves. Well now two of the most famous names in the auction business, eBay and Sotheby’s, have joined forces to offer consumers a very unique and interesting way to purchase goods.

The two companies have come together to launch a new, live-online auction site that allows collectors, buyers, and enthusiasts from all of the world to bid on items featured in Sotheby’s auctions that take place in New York. If you live far away from this area, and what to buy a featured item from one of these auctions, this is the best way to do it. Bidders can also gain access to live streams of both audio and video of the event, in addition to being able to view the items that are for sale.

We haven’t really seen anything like this before, but it does seem like a good move for the two auction houses to be working together. While Sotheby’s has had online auctions in the past, they hope this move will attract new customers to their auction house which then will increase sales. The first auction that will use this new internet platform will be held of April 1st. Items include a range of things that relate to New York City from New York artwork to the letters from the 1970’s Yankee Stadium sign which people think could sell for around $600,000 dollars.

You can head on over to the site on eBay (ebay.com/sothebys) to check out what the platform looks like and to preview some of the items in the upcoming auction in April. While this site is just for New York auctions, we hope that the two will branch out allowing people to place bid on items from even more Sotheby’s auctions from around the world.
