Apple’s Macbook Air is one of their most popular and most affordable laptop computer with prices starting at $899 dollars. These laptops are consistently rated extremely high and are some of the best on the market. Apple packs in a lot of technology in one of the sleekest and lightest laptops ever. When the Macbook Air’s were first introduced they helped pioneer a new category of laptops known as ultrabooks. The current Macbook Air on the market came out around 220 days ago, and with an average update cycle of 337 days, the new Macbook Airs are almost just around the corner. While Apple is known for its secrecy, we can only speculate as to what the new ones will be like. However if you look at trends, rumors, and the history of various Apple product lines, its not to hard to get a sense of what the new ones will be like, and they will definitely be the best yet.
So what could we possible expect in the new Macbook Air’s? Well they will probably come with a Retina display. The Retina displays are Apples HD screens, and they are found on pretty much all of their products. The iPhone’s have them, the new Macbook Pros have them, iMacs have them, and their iPads have them. The Macbook Air, aside from the old Macbook Pro that Apple still sells (which they are phasing out), is their only device that does not have a Retina display. So it is pretty safe to assume that the new ones will have them.
Additionally, Intel is in the final processes of finally releasing their brand new, Broadwell processors. These processors were pushed back many times, but it will definitely be released sometime in 2015. The new processors are smaller and provide more power, but most importantly they handle energy management much better. So what does that mean exactly? The new Broadwell processors will extend the battery life of laptops significantly. The Macbook Air already has terrific battery power having 9 hours on the 11 inch model and 12 hours on the 13 inch model. With the potential new Broadwell Macbook Airs, their battery lives will be pretty incredible. Additionally the processors are much smaller, so that means we could expect to see even slimmer Macbook Airs. Also, these processors are rumored to be able to not need a cooling fan. If thats the case, then these Macbook Airs will be ultra thin and light. I would say we can definitely expect thinner Macbook Airs as that seems to be Apple’s current goals (they brought us thinner iPads, iPhone, iMacs, and Macbooks all within the last year).
So while these are just rumors and speculations, we do know that the Broadwell processors are coming out relatively soon, and Apple will definitely use them to compete with other companies. We also probably can expect Retina displays on the new Macbook Airs. If these rumors are true, then the new Macbook Air’s will easily be some of the best laptops on the market.
