Waste Management Raises Bid For Rival Republic

Trash removal services has been turned into a huge industry that has billion dollar companies within it. There are still a number of areas around the country that primarily use whatever is offered in their local vicinity, but certain companies have been able to expand immensely and completely dominate the market. These are the largest trash removal companies in the country.

5. Casella Waste Systems 

Casella Waste Systems has been around since 1975 and has headquarters located in Rutland, Vermont. The company is relatively tiny, with only 2,720 employees but now operates in 34 states. The company pulls in a decent revenue and has grown to have a market cap of $188.45 million.

4. Clean Harbors

Clean Harbors is a company that focuses on environmental, energy, and industrial services. they were founded in 1980 out of Norwell, Massachusetts. The company only has 8,300 employees but operates throughout at least 38 of the states and has a $3.69 billion market cap.

3. Waste Connections

Waste Connections is a smaller removal company that began back in 1997 out of Texas. The company focuses on integrated solid waste services such as waste collection, transfer, disposal and recycling. Waste Connections still only operates within the Western and Southern regions of the country, but still pulls in a $1.3 billion revenue and has a $6.10 billion market cap.

2. Republic Services Inc. 

Republic Services Inc. started out in Phoenix, Arizona back in 1998. The company achieved moving from the third largest to the second largest trash removal company when they purchased competitor, Allied Waste Industries, for $6.1 billion back in 2008. Republic Services Inc. now operates all throughout the United States and has a market cap of $14 billion.

1. Waste Management

Waste Management is the largest trash removal service around and has a market cap of $21.75 billion. The company was founded in 1971 out of Houston, Texas and now serves neighborhoods around the entire country. Waste Management currently has 367 collection operations, 355 transfer stations, 273 active landfill disposal sites, 16 waste-to-energy plants, 134 recycling plants, 111 beneficial-use landfill gas projects and six independent power production plants.
