The Most Expensive Golf Clubs Ever Sold

The Most Expensive Golf Clubs Ever Sold

Golf is a sport that is loved and enjoyed by many whose roots can be traced back to 15th-century Scotland. While golf is a popular sport, it is notorously one of the most expensive sports to get into. For a completely new player, the cost of lessons, the equipment, and then maybe a membership to a course is astronomically high. That is why it is often a sport enjoyed by primarily wealthy individuals, however public golf course do exist. Regardless, a set of high-end golf clubs can get extremely expensive, but what about any individual club? Since the sport is so old, we often find hundred-year-old clubs being sold at auction for astronomically large amounts. But just how much can a golf club actually cost? Here are five of the most expensive gold clubs that have ever been sold.

Long-Nosed Scraped Golf Club

5. The Long-Nosed Scraped Golf Club -$91,000

Back in 2007, Sotheby’s had a massive auction for rare and valuable golf clubs from around the world. One such club was the Long-Nosed Scraped Golf Club and it managed to fetch for the unbelievable price of $91,000 dollars. The scraper could trace its roots back to sometime in the 18th-century and was kept in excellent condition over the years.

Barth & Sons Golden Putter

4. The Barth & Sons “First Lady” Special Edition Golden Putter – $150,000

Barth & Sons is a German company that produces bespoke golf clubs that are made from real gold and other valuable materials. Their clubs are absurdly luxurious and expensive, and one particular edition came in at $150,000 dollars. Dubbed the “First Lady”, the club in question was a putter made from cherry wood which was then coated in 24-karat gold. Oh and it also had a few diamonds on it as well. Combine all those facts, and you’ve got a $150,000 dollar putter on your hands. But the really important question here is will it actually improve your game?

Square Toe Light Iron

3. The Square Toe Light Iron – $151,000

We have another golf club on our list that was sold in that 2007 Sotheby’s antique golf club collection, and this time it was a small light iron. Kept in fairly good condition, this club dates back to the 1600’s, which makes it essentially a historical artifact. Historians estimate that less than 12 are still in existence today, one of which was sold for $151,000 dollars.

Simon Cossar Fruitwood Metal-Headed Blade Putter

2. The Simon Cossar Fruitwood Metal-Headed Blade Putter – $165,000

Simon Cossar was a man that had established himself as a club maker back in the 18th century, producing clubs from then into early parts of the 19th century. Collectors often do their best to track down his clubs, as they are worth tons of money. Back in 1998, Christies auctioned off a Fruitwood Metal-Headed Blade Putter that was sold for the incredible price of $165,000 dollars.

Andrew Dickson Long-Nosed Putter

1. The Andrew Dickson Long-Nosed Putter – $181,000

One of the most expensive golf clubs ever sold was a very unique long-nosed putter. It was constructed by a man named Andrew Dickson who was one of the more famous historical golf figures. His clubs are extremely rare and valuable, and this particular club dated back to the 1700’s. In fact, this club is the oldest Andrew Dickson club in existence, which is why it managed to fetch $181,000 dollars at a Sotheby’s auction.
