Mork & Mindy
While steadily building his career, Williams was cast by Garry Marshall as the alien Mork in a 1978 episode of the TV series Happy Days. His performance on the show was so popular that it led to his casting in the spin-off television sitcom Mork & Mindy. On the show, Williams played an alien from the planet Ork who comes to Earth and eventually meets a human friend named Mindy McConnell (played by Pam Dawber).
Mork & Mindy ran from 1978-1982 and, at its peak, brought in 60 million viewers each week. Many also credit the show for catapulting Williams to superstardom. So much more was to come from him.
