Taking a stand
Since Williams’ tragic passing, family and friends of the actors have stood up in support of both mental health and suicide awareness, particularly Zak and Zelda. The brother and sister duo have done several interviews speaking out on the issues, understanding that their father was struggling through things as millions of others in this country do.
“As a movement, we don’t stand anywhere nationally. There’s still a stigma associated with mental illness—that having [a] mental illness is a deficiency,” Zak shared at the Foundation of Hope’s annual fundraiser in 2015. “Everyone is on the spectrum. We all feel depressed at times. We all feel anxiety. One in four people suffers from some form of mental illness that is an impairment to their life. So that’s a big deal. That basically relates to practically every family in America.”
