Exactly How Much Money will the Mayweather/Pacquiao Fight Bring In?

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao

People all over the world are gearing up for one of the biggest fights in the history of boxing: Floyd Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao. These two gentlemen are arguably the best fighters in the sport right now, and this match is one that you cannot miss out on. Outside of wondering who is going to win, many people are also wondering how much money this fight is going to generate. Well as estimates are coming in, the fight is set to shatter every boxing revenue record in the history of the sport.

For this fight, money will be collected from a variety of different revenue streams. First we have the money collected at the gate, which is essentially the revenue that is generated from all the tickets for the live event. As soon as the fight was announced people knew tickets were going to be expensive. As of right now, tickets are selling between $1,500 to $7,500 dollars and the event will obviously sell out, also 1,100 tickets are priced at $10,000 per seat. Estimates indicate that revenue collected at the gate could be close to $74 million dollars.

Next we’ve got pay per view. The fight can be bought at home for $100 dollars for the stream, and people estimate more than 3 million fans will be tuning in. So we’ve got at least another $300 million right there. Next there is the revenue collected for foreign distribution which $35 million dollars has already been collected to distribute and air the fight around the world. Then finally we’ve got the sponsorship of a major beer company. Tecate won the bid over Corona and they paid $5.6 million to sponsor the event.

So when it’s all said and done, estimates indicate that around $400 million dollars in revenue will be brought in for this one fight alone, and that number could go even higher. If that turns out to be true, which is likely, that number breaks all the records for the most amount of money generated by a boxing match.
