The new Audi designs are phenomenal. They’re nice enough to make a move on any luxury brand around the world, seriously. As if the body designs weren’t enough, Audi’s innovation is also taking over. This Summer Audi will launch the first production vehicle equipped with laser light technology. The first model to take laser lights to market is the Audi R8 LMX (the video of the technology is the Quattro).
So what is laser lighting? The technology offers many more benefits than regular LED headlights, the first of which is better range in high-beam mode. The R8 LMX has LED headlights for normal daytime use and laser lights, which are activated over speeds of 60 km/h for safety. A system of sensors and cameras allow the technology to detect an oncoming car and adjust their positioning and beam so they don’t blind the driver. It’s not all good news though – the R8 LMX is projected to retail at $275,000.
The good news is the laser-light technology was first displayed on the Sport Quattro (seen in the video). Expect to see laser-lights on all of the Audi models within a reasonable period of time. The lights themselves are able to brighten up the road twice as much as standard LED lights.
Now, headlights don’t really get anyone excited, but the Audi design is awesome (clearly, I’m a big fan).
