The company behind the world’s most expensive cigar, Gurkha, has been described as “The Rolls Royce” of cigars.  Gurkha’s His Majesty’s Reserve cigar is the company – and the world’s – most expensive cigar, bringing in $25,000 per box; however, the price will most likely rise to $30,000 next year.  These limited production high class cigars are hand rolled and infused with a rare cognac; only 30 boxes are produced a year and there is currently a three year waiting list. Kaizad Hansotia, the company’s CEO justifies the high price tag by noting that Gurkah uses “the most exotic tobaccos around the world.”

The brand, which is named after the Gurkah people of Napal, prides itself on being one of the best and most popular luxury cigar brands in the world. Gurkah’s success comes as no surprise because of the long history it has a long history in the cigar world.  Founded in 1887 the company is now celebrating its 125th year and shows no signs of slowing down.  These high class cigars are popular amongst celebrities, political officials, and even royalty.  Former President, Bill Clinton has recently been cited as one of the company’s clients.  Hanosita has said that Clinton “loves the beauties, he loves the Gurkahs” and this claim has been supported by numerous pictures of the former president with a Gurkah in his mouth.

Mr. Hansotia, who has immense confidence in the Gurkah brand, says, “people try to copy us a lot, but we have no competition…We tell everybody, please smoke a Cuban cigar. And then smoke our cigars. And once they’ve smoked a Cuban and then once they smoke a Gurkha, or they smoke a cigar from Dominican Republic, they realize what a difference in quality it is. It’s a very unique smell. It’s a very unique flavor. Completely different than anything you’ve ever smoked in your life. So if you ever have the pleasure of smoking one, you will understand the difference in taste of a normal cigar to an HMR (His Majesty’s Reserve).” While His Majesty’s Reserve is the company’s most expensive and elite offering, Gurkah also has a selection which includes more than 20 other luxurious cigars which vary in price.
