Audemars Piguet Unveils the 2016 Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Watch in Gold

When it comes to ultra high-end Swiss watches, Audemars Piguet is an industry leader. They have a rich 140 year history of producing some of the finest timepieces in the world, and to celebrate one of their classics, they have unveiled the 2016 Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in all-gold. Audemars Piguet initially created the Royal Oak timepiece back in 1972 and it became an almost instant classic that shaped the watch industry. The original models were in stainless steel, but now Audemars Piguet has implemented an 18-karat gold design to make this timepiece even more desirable.

The case of the watch measures out to be 41 mm and it has sapphire crystal glass, a screw-locked crown, and a noticeable brushed pattern that is found throughout the piece. The piece has a beautiful blue dial that features a design that Audemars calls “Grande Tapisserie”. Between the blue dial, the white lettering, and the gold hour markers and hands, the 2016 Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar is quite the looker. Within the dial are four smaller dials. The 12 o’clock dial indicates the month, the 3 o’clock dial displays the time, the 9 o’clock dial indicates the day, and the 6 o’clock dial displays the various phases of the moon.

As with many watches of this nature, the most impressive features are its calibre and complications. It’s perpetual calendar complication will accurately display the time and date all the way up to the year 2100 before it needs to be reset. The 2016 Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar watch also utilizes a new self-winding calibre 5134 movement that has 374 individual parts, beats at a frequency of 2.75 hertz, and has a 40 hour power reserve.

The Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar is expected to be released by Audemars Piguet sometime in March of next year, and a price has not been revealed at this time. But if you know anything about Audemars Piguet, then you can bet this timepiece will cost more than some peoples homes, especially since it is almost entirely made from 18-karat gold.
