Wearable technology has certainly come out of the “fad” stage and into a viable product that provides users with plenty of features. While certain wearable tech like the Google Glass, didn’t catch on that well, smartwatches and smart fitness bands definitely did. I personally have a Moto 360, and it is pretty awesome and has changed how I handle my workflow. Nearly all technology manufacturers are getting into the wearable tech industry, as there are plenty to choose from right now. Well an unlikely candidate is also getting into the wearables: Swarovski.
The International Consumer Electronics Show is happening right now, and many companies use it as an opportunity to show off up and coming products. Many new smartwatches are being unveiled, however depending on who you are, they have a glaring flaw. I would argue that there really aren’t any feminine smartwatches or wearable tech on the market that are worth considering, until now. Swarovski is a well known Austrian company that produces crystals that are used in jewelry and fashion. They recently announced at CES that they are partnering with a wearable technology company known as Misfit to create a luxury line of wearable tech.
Known as the Swarovski Shine, this new wearable technology is the perfect choice for those who want a more feminine looking product; as it is basically jewelry. Misfit delivered the original Shine, which measures your sleep patterns and tracks various fitness related stats, in addition to a few other things, to Swarovski. Swarovski then outfitted the band with a large crystal on top. Swarovski is also producing a variety of watch bands, bracelets, and pendants that can hold the device which are equally as beautiful. If you are looking for a luxury wearable tech product, this is it. The devices will hit a limited number of stores in the United States and China, but you can pre-order them online as well. The company also exclaims that a solar-powered version will be available later in the year. That version ingeniously uses the crystal to amplify the suns rays and charge the device. One of the best parts of the device is the price. Currently the Swarovski Shine is available for pre-order in three different starter packs that range from $170 to $250 dollars. Compared to other manufacturers of devices like this, this is priced the same as many competing products. Additionally, jewelry pieces range from $70 to $150 dollars. The Swarovski Shine hopes to bridge the gap between wearable technology and jewelry, and it looks like it will do a good job at that.
