Amazon Enters the Gaming World With Set-Top Box

Jeff Bezos Launches Bezos Center For Innovation In Seattle

There are nights I go to sleep thinking that if Amazon had designs on taking over the world they probably could succeed. For now, CEO Jeff Bezos and Amazon will try to make a dent in the world of gaming.  While Microsoft Xbox and Sony Playstation are the dominant consoles for gamers around the world, Amazon’s new set-top box, the Fire TV, is more than just a streaming TV device.  The device will also feature a gaming component connected to Amazon’s own gaming studio. It doesn’t stop there. Not only will Amazon’s gaming studio provide material for the Fire TV, bit name companies like EA, Disney, 2K and Gameloft will also be providing games for the device.

The games will allegedly start around $.99 and could cost up to $2.00. At the launch, the device contained 133 games and runs on the Android operating system – many of the games can be found on other devices as well. In fact, the Fire TV gaming component resembles that of the Ouya and Roku.

There’s no question that if Amazon is putting their name on it it’s going to be a success. We say that knowing that the gaming industry has been somewhat monopolized and one would think that Sony and Microsoft are safe. Well, it’s going to take time and they’re safe for now, but like we said – Amazon could take over the world if they wanted to….
