Toyota Has Created A Concept Car Made From Wood

Toyota Setsuna Wood Car

A concept car usually features the latest and greatest automotive technology and materials, but Toyota’s new Setsuna concept car is quite different. This unique roadster is not only a fully-electric vehicle, it’s largely made from real wood. No, seriously.

Toyota wanted to get a bit creative with this concept car that they will be showing off at the Design Week in Milan next month, and opted to go with some fairly unusually materials. The boat-like roadster features an exterior made from cedar panels, a birch wood frame, an elm wood floor, and a steering wheel made from Japanese cypress. According to Toyota, not a single nail or screw was used in the construction of the vehicle, which makes it even more impressive. The word “setsuna” is Japanese for “moment”, and Toyota wanted to create a car that would change and age over time.

The vehicle features an electric motor and six 12-volt batteries. It can travel some 15.5 miles on a single charge and reach speeds of about 28 mph, however it is currently not street legal. Toyota isn’t looking to start making cars from wood, rather the Setsuna is more like a work of art…that happens to also be a car.

The Toyota Setsuna is certainly a very unique and beautiful car, and it will be shown off at the Salone del Mobile Milano from April 12th to the 17th in Italy.
