The highest grossing actor of all-time, Tom Hanks, is unarguably one of the best and most reliably profitable actors of the past half century. Born in 1956 in Concord, California, the American actor, producer, writer, comedian and director has starred in close to 50 major motion pictures and has been nominated for five Academy Awards, five BAFTAs, eight Golden Globes, nine Emmys and seven SAG Awards over the course of his illustrious career. Hanks’ films have grossed over $9.2 billion worldwide, giving him a net worth of over $390 million. 5. Toy Story 2 – $485 million 

Considered by many to be even better than the original, the 1999 Walt Disney feature Toy Story 2 recast Hanks as the voice of Woody, the lovable cowboy with a snake in his boot. Winner of Best Musical or Comedy at the 2000 Golden Globe Awards, the Pixar Animation Studios-produced film was highly successful both critically and financially.

Based on the highly popular Dan Brown novel of the same name, Angels & Demons recasts Hanks as Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon in this prequel to The Da Vinci Code. Directed by Ron Howard and filmed in Rome, Italy, the 2009 mystery thriller was met with mixed critical reviews, Catholic controversy and box office success.

Not only did the film receive negative reviews, but was also considered controversial and met with harsh criticism from the Catholic Church.
