
DreamWorks makes movies, and they make a lot of money. Their animated films are some of the most entertaining and most successful movies in the world, and the profits don’t lie. It’s the company that made films such as Shrek and Madagascar, and it’s not surprising to see that these movies bring in millions when they are initially released. Here are the five highest grossing DreamWorks (domestic gross) films ever made.
How to Train Your Dragon – $217.5 million
This animated film was released in just a little more than 4,000 theaters and managed to bring in more than $43.7 million on opening weekend alone. The cute animated film that children and their parents enjoyed was a box office success, rounding out the top five spots on DreamWorks highest-grossing movie list.
Shrek Forever After – $238.7 million
It’s not a big secret that the Shrek franchise is one of the most successful in the world. The movies employ some of the biggest stars in the world, who lend their voices to each of the memorable characters. This movie was released in more than 4,300 theaters and took in $70.8 million on opening weekend.
Shrek – $267.6 million
It was the first of the Shrek movies, and one of the most successful. It’s when people fell in love with Shrek, Fiona and Donkey. On opening weekend, the movie earned more than $42.3 million and quickly began to earn more after word of mouth got out that the movie was hilarious.
Shrek the Third – $322.7 million
It’s hard not to get excited about a subsequent movie when you loved the first two so much. On opening weekend, Shrek the Third took in $121.6 million. It was show in more than 4,100 theaters and it’s the second highest-grossing DreamWorks animation to date.
Shrek 2 – $441.2 million
The first one was such a hit that people couldn’t wait to see the second. The hilarious cast of characters and the excellent script paid off for DreamWorks with this awesome movie. It took in more than $108 million on opening weekend alone, and almost double what the final Shrek film took in worldwide.
