The Five Most Valuable Sports Brands

World Expo 2010 - Previews

Sporting brands are some of the most popular throughout the world. Everyone watches sports at some point whether you’re an avid fan or not and kids never stop idolizing the professionals or wanting to be like them. These massive brands are everywhere, and even if you are uninterested in sports, I’m sure you’ll immediately recognize these companies and understand why they’ve become so massive. Here are the five most valuable sports brands.

5. Sky Sports – $4.9 Billion

Sky Sports is slowly taking over the sports television rights in Europe little by little. The company offers a larger variety of sports on television compared to the U.S. and most recently added Formula 1 to their list. The company is currently focusing on the digital platform and making sure that their programs can be viewed on smart devices and computers for subscribers and is continuing to build the company.

4. ESPN – $11.5 Billion

ESPN was the first major 100% sports channel offered through basic cable. The company offers live sports and sports news around the clock with some pretty good news anchors and all the best former athletes to offer insight on whatever is happening around the country in sports. Even if you don’t like to play or watch any sports, I bet you at least have heard of ESPN and know it is a company dedicated to sports. The company has built itself into an empire and nobody has been able to break into the market and compete, leaving ESPN worth $11.5 billion.

3. Under Armour – $15 Billion

Under Armour is a pretty new athletic apparel company compared to Nike or Adidas, but they took the market by storm with their tight fitting apparel. The big draw for Under Armour was that the clothing was very athletic and the different types were designated for hot or cold weather. Since then they have grown into one of the largest sports brand with their very recognizable interlocking UA logo and are valued at $15 billion.

2. Adidas – $15.34 Billion

Adidas is another brand that has been around for a long time and always been considered to be a top athletic apparel brand. Adidas is mainly known for their soccer products and sponsoring plenty of athletes in the World Cup and other big tournaments but is still a powerhouse retailer for other sports as well. Although the company is represented by teams like Argentina and Germany, two teams currently in the World Cup semi-final, they still are overpowered by Nike.

1. Nike – $69 Billion

This one should have been pretty obvious. Nike is the sports king and has one of the most recognized brand logos around the world. If you can’t associate the iconic swoosh logo with Nike then there is a good chance you live under a rock. The company has expanded itself into many different industries and is the company that athletes want to get sponsored by. They are the most valuable brand out there and worth $15 billion.
