Five Things you Didn’t Know about Chevron

Chevron is one of the biggest oil and gas manufacturers in the world. The company has a market cap of more than $242.51 billion. The company headquarters are located in San Ramon, California. While the company is largely in the public eye, with gas stations on virtually every corner, it’s not a company many people bother to learn more about.

Chevron is Big

And we are not just talking Chevron stripes. In 2014, Chevron was named the third largest company on the Fortune Global 500 list. It’s a big deal to be named one of the global Fortune 500 companies, but to be named third is excellent. It means good things for the company.

Big Budgets

In 2011 alone, Chevron had a $2 billion budget for research. This research was used to discover new ways to use fossil fuels, to discover new sources of energy and to do many other things. The purpose of Chevron’s research is to make their business a bit more seamless.

Chevron’s Environmental Concerns

Some people find Chevron a bit unsafe. One of the biggest reasons for this matter of public opinion stems from the fact that the company experienced a fire in one of its plants because aging equipment was not properly replaced and inspected. It was a matter of simple oversight that cost the company a bit of its reputation.

It’s Part of Standard Oil

Why this is surprising to many remains a mystery. Standard Oil was forced to break down into several different entities many decades ago, and all of the major gas and oil companies in the country stem from this parent company.

It’s the Second Largest

Behind Exxon-Mobil, Chevron is the second largest oil company in the country. This occurred following the merger of Chevron and Texaco in 2000. The deal cost Chevron $45 billion, but the profits have been unmistakably worth it. While Texaco is a name still used as a brand under the Chevron company, the name Texaco was not used in the merger.
