This past Thursday, June 12, 2014, Sheldon Adelson, chairman and CEO of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation and owner of he Israeli daily newspaper Israel HaYom, made $440.6 million. That amount of money is more than any of the 200 richest people on earth made that day. Therefore, it’s quite likely that Adelson, who is the 13th richest person in the world, possessing a net worth of $34.5 billion, made more money in one day last Thursday than anyone else has in a single this year and, frankly, probably in many years.
However, while Adelson’s influx of money is pretty awe-inspiring, it’s possible to have both really good and really bad days when you’re the chairman and CEO of a major company. Let’s compare Adelson making $440 million in one day to WWE CEO and chairman Vince McMahon, who lost a reported $350 million just last month on May 20th. That huge loss of money for McMahon was a combination of different factors, but most experts pointed to the main reason being that the WWE’s stock severely dropped after the announcement of a new TV deal on just the week before.
There’s still another six months left in 2014, but I think it’s going to be hard for anyone to top either Adelson or McMahon when it comes to making or losing money in one day. No matter which side of the spectrum you’re on, whether you’re gaining or losing funds, it’s pretty difficult to get into the hundreds of millions either way. However, if it does happen, you can be sure that we’ll cover the story here as soon it does.
