The ModCat Project L3 Concept Catamaran Yacht

ModCat Project L3 Concept Catamaran Yacht

Yacht designer Rob McPherson and the naval architect company known as BMT Nigel Gee have recently collaborated to design an incredible concept yacht. It’s called the ModCat Project L3 and it is a massive, luxury catamaran concept that looks like it was designed by a James Bond supervillain (in a good way). We often don’t see many catamarans used as luxury yachts, but this concept could be one of the most attractive one’s to have ever been created.

The ModCat Project L3 comes in at a massive 278-feet, which puts it in superyacth territory. The team that worked on the designs wanted to create something that challenged the norm; a boat that would push the envelop of yacht designs. It seems that they have succeeded. Its unique shape and red hulls make it quite the looker, and it theoretically will also be very quick. Catamarans, by nature, are much faster than traditional boats that have only one hull. The ModCat Project L3 would be able to achieve speeds over 40 knots (46 mph), which is absurdly fast for a yacht this large.

The designs makes use of many sharp lines and angles that give the Project L3 a very aggressive appearance; it’s certainly one of the most interesting yachts that we have ever seen. From pretty much any side or viewing angle, the Porject L3 looks like an alien space ship or something from a science fiction film. If you want a yacht that will turn heads, the L3 will probably do a pretty good job.

While the front and sides are interesting, it is at the stern that we find most of the action. The concept offers a few different retractable docks and beach areas that allow any future owner to dock and store a variety of smaller vehicles. For example, in the title picture we see an airplane and a few boats. From the rear we can also see a few different decks that all aim to offer something different. The main deck is so large that it has enough room for a massive swimming pool, two lounges, a bar, and even an area for an outdoor fire pit.

The interior of the Project L3 is still somewhat in the air. Being a custom yacht design concept, the interior could virtually be anything depending on a customers orders. We are told that there is the same amount of interior space within the Project L3 that is found on a yacht with an 80-foot monohull. What that means is that there is more than enough room to make this concept essentially a floating mansion: multiple bedrooms, a spa, a few bathrooms, a full-sized kitchen, multiple lounges, a home theater, and more are all possibilities for things to be included on the inside. There is no indication as to how much this yacht would cost to construct given that it is only a concept right now, however it would be safe to assume that this will be a multi-million dollar vessel. When you consider the bold designs, the potential performance, and how much space the L3 offers, it certainly seems like an ultra-premium yacht that is read to sail the oceans of the world.
