Elvis Presley Jets are Heading to Auction

Elvis Presley was one of the most iconic faces in the music industry who changed how things were done. The Rock ‘n’ Roll legend and army veteran only lived until he was 42 years old, but was able to have an amazing career and made enough money to own some planes. Two of Elvis Presley’s private jets are now going to auction, and people will have the chance to house one or both of these legendary air vehicles that are a part of the King’s legacy starting January 2nd in California.

The two private jets being auctioned are TheLisa Marie and the Hound Dog II. The Lisa Marie is named after Presley’s daughter and used to be owned by Delta Airlines until it was bought by Elvis for $250,000 back in 1975. The musician spent an additional $300,000 to redecorate the interior so it included a bedroom, conference room and bathroom with an extremely nice golden sink. The jet’s exterior was repainted to a patriotic red, white and blue along with his motto, which was “Taking Care of Business,” on the back. Eventually, The Lisa Marie needed to be retouched up which left the singer needing a jet for a certain period of time. This is when Elvis bought the Hound Dog II, which cost him $900,000.

The current owners of the two air crafts are currently housing the jets at Graceland (the former home of Elvis) in Memphis, Tennessee, which is where they have been for the past 30 years. When the auctions finish the new owners can remove the jets from the residence in April or purchase the land next to Graceland where they can keep them displayed because the planes are not considered to be airworthy, making it tough to transport them. The auction goes until February 2nd and the jets, which are being sold together, are expected to sell for somewhere between $10 and $15 million.
