Today Ryanair announced that they were in agreement with Boeing to purchase $22 billion worth of their jets. The deal gives Ryanair 100 new 737 jets with the option to purchase 100 more if they please. The company can expand the planes to add in eight seats which helps lower their cost per flight. Ryanair’s fleet is all Boeing jets and the company is Europe’s largest, having more than 81 million people fly each year. Here are five things you didn’t know about Ryanair.

5. Ryanair demands very low fees

The company has to negotiate prices with the airports and Ryanair makes sure their landing and handling fees are kept as minimal as possible. Even when they are discussing prices for their marketing campaigns, they still make sure they receive a fair price that allows them to keep their rates low for customers.

4. They try to fly to smaller airports

Ryanair attempts to fly their planes to smaller airports surrounding the major cities. This aids in allowing them to keep their fees low as mentioned in #5, but also allows them to make great turnaround with their planes and offer lots of flight times.

3. They have run into recent fuel controversy

Ryanair has been facing some problems with news leaking that the company strongly encourages their pilots to fly with a little fuel as needed to reach the destination. The company seems highly focused on cutting back costs on every corner possible, but has been caught supposedly using less fuel than legally aloud.

2. They have improved their customer service

Ryanair has had plenty of problems since their inception, but this year they have worked very hard to re-design their marketing campaigns and better advertise to families. The company restructured flight packages that offer great discounts to accommodate families.

1. Ryanair likes to be efficient

If it hasn’t become apparent from some of the past examples, Ryanair doesn’t shy away from any chance to save money or optimize efficiency. On their planes, the company has eliminated two toilets to add six more passenger seats, life jackets secured overhead rather than under the seat to clean the planes easier and increase the speed of safety checks.
