The house building industry has seen tons of financial trends over the past decade and the business has witnessed some harsh times. Yet, certain home building companies have been able to establish a massive foothold in the market and evolve into billion dollar companies. These are the largest home building companies in the world.
5. KB Home – $1.56 Billion
KB Home was founded in 1957 and was originally called Kaufman & Broad. The company started out of Detroit, Michigan and was the first official home builder company on the New York Stock Exchange. The company has built over 550,000 homes since their start and primarily builds homes for first time buyers.
4. Toll Brothers – $6.01 Billion
The Toll Brothers started in Horsham, Pennsylvania back in 1986, but operates throughout most of the United States. The company builds single family detached and attached homes in upscale communities. Toll Brother homes are amazing looking and the company was named the Builder of the Year for 2012 and they are the first company to win the award twice.
3. Pulte Homes – $6.97 Billion
Pulte Homes was started in Atlanta, Georgia during 1950 by Bill Pulte. The company acquired Centex in 2009 for $3.1 billion which massively expanded the company. Pulte Homes has built over 500,000 homes throughout it’s beginning and back in 2006 alone the company built 41,487 homes in the United States.
2. D.R. Horton – $7.84 Billion
D.R. Horton was founded in 1978 by Donald R. Horton in Fort Worth, Texas. The company is considered to be the largest residential house builder in the United States and has sold 18,890 houses as of 2012. They have 3,000 workers nationwide and consider themselves to be “America’s Builder”.
1. Lennar Corporation – $7.93 Billion
The Lennar Corporation was founded by Leonard Miller who invested in F&R Builders and eventually took over when the company went public with the new name of Lennar Corporation. The company is based out of Miami, Florida and operates within 18 states throughout the country. The company makes beautiful homes that are massive and have great design.
