The Five Biggest Shareholders of Facebook Stock

Facebook Announces New Email Messaging System

Whether you’ve seen The Social Network, keep up with the stock exchange, or just have a love for tech companies, you probably find yourself wondering how many people own certain percentages of these tech giants such as Google, Apple and Facebook. These are billion dollar companies that have revolutionized the way we live and go about our lives each day. With so many people purchasing their various products each day we are only tossing more money at them, but who is it all actually going to?

Here are the five biggest shareholders of Facebook stock.

5. Eduardo Saverin/ Sean Parker – 4% (each)

The fifth spot on this list is actually a tie between two very familiar names that were involved with Facebook from the start; Eduardo Saverin and Sean Parker. Both own 4% of the company, and while that number might seem very small, it actually ends up being valued at $3.4 billion for both of these guys. Parker has been known for his smart yet somewhat carefree antics in the past like creating Napster, and was able to guide Mark Zuckerberg along as Facebook blew up into the site it is now while Saverin, being on the business end of things left the company and now invests his riches into other projects around the globe.

4. Digital Sky Technologies – 5.4%

Digital Sky Technologies is a Russian internet holding company who got in on Facebook back in 2009 with a massive $200 million investment. The owner of the company has his hand in many different tech companies (Zynga and Groupon) but has slowly been purchasing stock from other Facebook employees or shareholders which has allowed him to build from the original 1.95% to the current 5.4% which is valued at $4.6 billion.

3. Dustin Moskovitz – 7.6%

Another original co-founder of Facebook, Dustin Moskovitz, comes in at number three on the list. Moskovitz was Zuckerberg’s college roommate at Harvard and was around throughout the entire creation process. Although he left the company in 2008 to start project management company, Asana, his stake of Facebook shares is worth a nice $6.5 billion. He even edges out Zuckerberg as the youngest billionaire because their birthdays are only 8 days apart (May 14 and May 22).

2. Accel Partners – 10%

The Accel Partners are considered to be venture capital investors of Facebook. They originally got in on the company by offering an investment of $12.7 million that bought the firm a 15% portion of the company. These guys were just ahead of the curve at the right time and discovered Facebook while it had expanded to Stanford, and while the company overall still owns 10%, it’s worth $8.5 billion.

1. Mark Zuckerberg – 28.2%

It should be no surprise that the list is rounded out with the Facebook creator himself, Mark Zuckerberg. Facebook is (at least somewhat…) his idea, his baby, and he is surely reaping the rewards. The man has changed the way social media is used and has connected the world in a new way with Facebook. He is still the CEO and holds 28.2% of the shares which are valued at $24 billion.
