A quick glance at Kevin Abosch’s “Potato #345” photograph might leave you wondering “what’s so special about this?”. After all, it is “just” a simple high-resolution photograph of a potato with an all-black background. However Kevin Abosch isn’t just your average photographer and artists, he’s actually a big deal. So much of a deal that the above picture sold last year for $1,083,450 dollars.
So who is Kevin Abosch you ask? Well he’s a prominent photographer and artist from Ireland who is best known for taking portraits of some of the most famous celebrities and the wealthiest CEO’s in the world. Abosch has met virtually all of the big executives from Silicon Valley, where he’s commissioned by them to take their picture. The wealthy elite of Silicon Valley pay anywhere from $150,000 to $500,000 dollars just to have Kevin Abosch take their picture. All of his work incorporated a black background, which has become his “thing”.
But not only does Kevin just take pictures of wealthy business people that pay him, he also produces his own art. And since Kevin has made a name for himself as a photographer, people are willing to spend all kinds of money for his work, like the million dollar potato photograph.
