The Kinetic Hotel Chandelier Turns Guests Movements and Social Media Updates Into a Light Show

A7

With each passing day our reality moves closer to a futuristic science fiction or fantasy movie. Obviously, we’re not going to be flying around on brooms or moving to an under water civilization (not yet), but slowly but surely we’re getting closer to seeing little things that turn our heads.

In this case, we’re talking about a hotel chandelier that pulses hypnotically with light, flickers or does some other odd action when someone moves up and down a spiral staircase, the weather changes outside or someone mentions the hotel on Twitter or Facebook. This incredible high-tech chandelier has hundreds of bulbs that can respond to the environment around it. Engineers from IDEO Digital have been recognized around the internet for their incredible creation.

The kinetic chandelier Edison was designed to first launch at the Epiphany Hotel in Palo Alto, California. It would be completely customized for the hotel and include an in-house Internet Of Things tool kit. The first design would be a 10 ft. by 10 ft. grid of LED lights that vary in position and brightness independently. There is truly and infinite amount of possibilities of coordinated with motion and lighting control.

Eventually IDEO’s goal is to create a communal physical platform that will allow people from all over the world to contribute visualization codes and have their work be represented through light and motion.
