Check Out Google’s Self-Driving Car on City Streets

A

Google’s self-driving car has just about mastered every road out there. The innovative brilliance of Google is unparalleled when it comes to this technology. The first step was conquering the rural highways of California and now it appears as if they’re very close to making the self-driving car safe in the city.

Throughout the past year or so, Google has been fine-tuning the software that operates their self-driving vehicles to master the complexities of stop-and-go driving that is the city. Think what you see everyday when you drive in the city – people, construction, emergency service vehicles, and more. The software has to be nearly perfectly prepared for surprises.

Chris Urmson, the head of Google’s self-driving project, has said that engineers have improved the cars’ software to recognize situations like pedestrians, buses, stop signs, hand signals, cyclists and more. Urmson believes that Google can master everything and potentially handle things better than we humans do…

“A self-driving vehicle can pay attention to all of these things in a way that a human physically can’t — and it never gets tired or distracted,” Urmson wrote. “As it turns out, what looks chaotic and random on a city street to the human eye is actually fairly predictable to a computer.”

Here’s what we know about the self-driving car. A.) There’s absolutely no way this is going to go to market without proving that it is completely flawless. B.) It’s coming and it’s coming fast. Personally, I think it’s going to be awesome and perhaps save lives, money and more…
