Amazon May Be Developing a 3D Smartphone

Google got some attention with their purchase of Titan Aerospace and now Amazon will get some love because of their lofty innovative goals. Pay attention in the second half of 2014, Amazon has their eyes on releasing a 3D smartphone to try and disrupt the market currently owned by Apple and Samsung. The phone is looking to be dropped in the early part of the Summer in preparation for the long holiday season. According to reports, the phone’s screen will display 3D like images without the need for special glasses. How does it do it? Four front-facing retina tracking cameras that will make some images appear to be 3D.

The news of the 3D phone comes on the heels of Amazon’s Fire TV. The new devices are part of the e-commerce king’s plan to move from the retail space into multimedia, leveraging its Kindle and streaming video. It’ll be quite interesting to see how successful Amazon is at disrupting the cell phone market. We’ve seen the brilliance of the company first hand and believe they can do anything. However, it’s impossible to overlook the sheer dominance Apple has in the smartphone game.
