A Prized Pelé Trophy Is Expected To Fetch $600,000 At Auction

Edson Arantes do Nascimento, who’s best known as Pelé, is widely considered to be the best soccer player of all-time. The Brazilian star has accomplished an incredible amount during his career, and he even holds the Guinness World Record for the most career goals scored, in addition to a long list of awards and accolades. Fans around the world would kill for a piece of official Pelé memorabilia, and an upcoming auction at Julien’s is dedicated entirely to the athlete. Dubbed “Pelé: The Collection”, this upcoming event features over 2,000 prized Pelé memorabilia, awards, and personal effects; everything from jerseys to his 1,000th goal ball. However one trophy is going to be offered for sale, and it’s expected to fetch some $600,000 dollars.

The trophy in question is Pelé’s one-of-a-kind World Cup’s Jules Rimet Trophy. This was specially made by FIFA and the government of Mexico after Pelé secured his third World Cup win back in 1970. Pelé is the only athlete in the history of the sport to have ever won these three games. Now potential fans and collectors have a chance to own this very trophy and it will be exciting to see if it reaches its estimated $600,000 dollar mark.

Included in the auction are many other notable goods. A game-worn jersey could fetch upwards of $10,000 dollars and his 1977 New York Cosmos NASL championship ring that’s valued at $40,000 is also up for grabs. Additionally Pelé’s 1,000th goal ball will be offered and is expected to fetch some $60,000 dollars and there’s also his three World Cup medals from the 1958, 1962, and 1970 games and they’re valued at $100,000 to $200,000 dollars.

Julien’s Auctions is taking charge of the event that will run from June 7th to June 9th in London, England. They will be taking bids in person, over the internet, and through smartphones and a part of the sales will benefit the Hospital Pequeno Principe in Brazil. There’s no telling just how much these lots will sell for, and we’ll keep an eye out to see if that trophy actually goes for that incredible $600,000 dollar figure. I’m betting that it will.
