How 27-Year Old Billionaire David Karp Spent His Year After Selling Tumblr to Yahoo!

On May 20, 2013, Yahoo announced that it would be buying Tumblr for $1.1 billion. The founder David Karp still owned a large portion of the company… he was only 26-years old at the time. Imagine you’re 26-years old  and you just made close to a billion dollars. What would you do? Here’s what David Karp did in Tumblr photos:

As you can imagine, there was a lot of press to be tackled… A lot.

And then there were awards and a lot of them for his achievement. Here is Karp at the 17th annual Webby Awards in New York City.

Karp attended several special events and befriended various celebrities. He appeared on the Colbert report where he said he wasn’t successful yet because Tumblr wasn’t popular.

Then he started working at Yahoo (technically) and rang the opening bell. Yahoo CEO Marissa Meyer was there too.

Union Square Ventures co-founder Brad Burnham and his wife took Karp and his girlfriend on a boat tour around NYC.

Karp and his girlfriend did a fair amount of traveling. They went to England, Beijing and more.

Oh – and Karp worked his tail off. He says that being at Tumblr makes him feel like “he’s home”. What a year!
