The World’s Most Extravagant Submarine Superyachts

Migaloo Submarines

Like something a James Bond supervillian would own, you now have the opportunity to own a “submarine superyacht”. What exactly is a submarine superyacht? Well it’s a vessel that has all the amenities and features that are found on a multi-million dollar yacht, however it’s a submarine. While this may seem like a fantasy, it turns out it’s actually a really thing. The Austrian shipbuilder and design firm known as Migaloo Submarines will help you design and construct one of these incredible submarines, provided you’re a billionaire of course.

When a personal superyacht just doesn’t offer the levels of privacy and luxury that you demand, a submarine would be your next best bet. It seems like these would be illegal, however that is far from the case. Currently, Migaloo Submarines have a few different concept designs for submarines. The base model is the M2: it’s 236-feet in length and has been designed around an underwater restaurant/bar that can accommodate anywhere from 24-36 guests.

If that submarine doesn’t interest you, then they also have the larger 442-foot M5 and the 524-foot M6 submarine. These offer multiple viewing galleries, a dining area, a few bedrooms, a saloon, a wine cellar, a lounge, and much more. Again, these submarines are essentially superyachts so you can expect all the luxuries found in yachts, except your vessel can dive underwater.

Still, as impressive as those submarines are, they don’t come close to the M7. At 738-feet, the M7 is the largest submarine superyacht in the entire world, and it’s the most premium vehicle from Migaloo. It’s based off the United States Navy’s Zumwalt-class submarine and it offers every possible luxury imaginable. The M7 can achieve speeds of 40 knots on the water and 20 knots underwater.

While these concepts seem very impressive, it does not appear as though any have actually been constructed. I’m a bit skeptical as to what these submarines can offer, given the complexity and technical difficulties that are involved with creating a personal submarine. Are there even submarine captains/crews for personal hire? I’d imagine the qualifications to pilot a submarine thats over 700-feet in length are quite demanding. Sure personal submarines do exist, however they are like 50-feet in length at most. Since none of these submarines have been produced (yet), we can’t imagine how much they could possible cost. I would guess that you would be looking at hundreds of millions of dollars. But if you have that much money and want a submarine, now you know where to get one. Just don’t let it turn you into a supervillain.
