A Look into Harry Winston and Some of Their Jewelry

Jewelry companies and jewelers are responsible for the handling, production, and distribution of necklaces, earrings, watches, pendents, jewels, and various other jewelry. The high end companies are well known for producing some of the best and most luxurious jewelry in the entire world. These high end companies have not only the access to the best mines in the world, the best designers, and the best jewelry makers, but also the assets and resources to create pieces that can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, sometimes even millions. One of the worlds most prominent jewelers would be Harry Winston.

Harry Winston was the son of Ukranian immigrants who came to the United States seeking a better life back in the late 1800’s. Once arriving to America, Harry’s father Jacob opened up a small jewelry shop. So one might say that Harry Winston grew up a jeweler, as he worked in his fathers shop. There is a rumor floating around the internet that when Harry was just twelve years old, he found an incredibly rare and large emerald at a pawn shop. After a bit of haggling he paid just 25 cents for the diamond and then sold the emerald a few days later for $800 dollars. Whether or not this is true, it was still certain that Harry was a great jeweler and had a real nack for it. As Harry grew older and the shop made more money, Harry started to acquire rare jewels and jewelry sets. This all started when he acquired the legendary and rare jewelry set of Arabella Huntington, who was the spouse of a wealth railroad baron. After acquiring the jewelry he then took it apart and made it into new pieces, as he felt they were too old fashioned. He also became the owner of the famous Hope Diamond, a 45.52 carat deep blue diamond from India. That diamond has an estimated worth of $200-$250 million dollars. He would eventually donate this diamond to the U.S. Smithsonian Institution where he famously casual sent the diamond to them through the mail.

Outside of his personal life, his business has become a world renowned retailer of some of the finest jewelry in the world. The sell engagement rings, earrings, pendants, necklaces, charms, brooches, watches, and a variety of other jewelry. You know you are dealing with a serious and legitimate jewelry when they do not post any of their prices. You have to contact them directly to find out how much their products cost, so we would imagine that most people probably cannot afford these.

Their Oval Micropavé Diamond Engagement Ring features a beautifully cut oval diamond, in addition to the various other smaller diamonds that encase the ring that is made of platinum. The total weight of the ring comes in at 2.65 carats with center stones that start at 1 carat. Their wedding bands are also pretty nice, and they make some for men as well.

The beautiful earrings are also pretty exceptional. The earrings themselves are reversible and feature many pear-shaped diamonds on one size while there are sapphires, diamonds, and aquamarine on the other side. These earrings have 18 cut diamonds weighing in at 0.84 carats, 8 pear-shaped aquamarines with a weight of 0.45 carats, and an astounding 438 small diamonds with a combined weight of 7.43 carats. Oh, and they are all set in platinum.

Their watches are absolutely absurd. This one called the “Premier Glacier” about 497 individual diamonds in it, that are a variety of different cuts that add up to 30.59 carats worth of diamonds. The non-diamond part of the watch (yes that does actually exist) is made from 18 karat white gold. I cannot imagine what a watch like this would cost.

I will say it again, their watches are absolutely absurd. This “Histoire de Tourbillon 3” has three tourbillons and has 497 components. So as you can see Harry Winston really does produce some amazing pieces of jewelry. They have a wide selection on jewelry that I am sure range in price. I selected a few pieces that I thought were a good way to display some of their work. Especially the watches, while that diamond one probably costs more than most homes, the “Histoire de Tourbillon 3” is seriously a sweet watch. But those are only a few pieces of the many that Harry Winston produces. I’d love to know how much these cost, but it seems that unless you are a serious buyer, you won’t be able to find out.
