The Top Five Luxury Volvo Models of All-Time

Luxury Volvo Models

Since it’s official inception as a car manufacturer in 1927, Volvo has remained to be one of the leading car brands in the world. While the industry was largely dominated by European countries like Germany or Italy, American, and Asian automobile companies, Volvo showed the world that the Swedes could produce some incredible automobiles. The history of the brand is one filled with many ups and downs, as they have changed owners throughout the years. Still their cars are considered to be some of the best for what they are. Today Volvo produces a range of vehicles that offer a great balance of performance, luxury features, and safety. Since they are one of the more successful automobile brands, and this being Worthly, why don’t we take a look at some of the most luxurious Volvos that are out there in the world?

Volvo XC70

The V70/XC70

Normally you wouldn’t associate a station wagon/executive car with the word “luxury”, but Volvo has been proving that statement wrong since 1996. Back then, Volvo wanted to create an executive car that would not only be extremely versatile, but fairly luxurious as well. The V70 (now branded as the XC70) quickly became one of the defining vehicle for the Swedish brand. It was a fairly large and roomy vehicle that boasted a host of luxury features and practical amenities. It’s a car that can handle the day-to-day work commute in style and it has enough room for the whole family, while also providing the driver with a reliable car that they could take off-road for an extended camping trip. The current top-of-the-line model offers a 3.0-liter, 6-cylinder turbocharged engine that delivers 300 hp in total. Combine it’s engine with the cars all-wheel-drive platform, and suddenly this car is very capable. Looks are very deceiving, and the V70/XC70 has proved that to be true. Then you take a look at the interior, and suddenly you will realize that this is truly a luxurious and practical vehicle.

Volvo P1800

The P1800

The 1960’s gave saw the rise of the sporty, 2-door coupes/roadsters, and the P1800 was Volvo’s first true successful vehicle into this automobile category. Produced from 1961 to 1973 and often hailed as one of the best Volvo’s of all-time, the P1800 was truly a great car. While the luxury features of today obviously outshine those of the 1960’s, this car was (and is) still pretty awesome given the time it was launched. The original models featured a straight-four engine with two SU carburetors that delivered 100 hp in total. The vehicles engine, camshaft, and gearbox would be changed and upgraded throughout the years, but the idea of the car remained the same: a sporty 2-door coupe that offered great levels of reliability, luxury, and performance. The P1800 was an instant hit among fans, and that was propelled even further when Roger Moore was seen driving the car in the television show The Saint. Moore has even described the P1800 as his “favorite movie car”, and that’s coming from a man who drove Bentley’s and Alfa Romeo’s when he was portraying James Bond. But even more importantly, the P1800 proved to the world that Volvo could create a car with a timeless design.

Volvo Concept Coupe

The Concept Coupe

Take one look at Volvo’s Concept Coupe, and you just know that this car is something else. Volvo introduced this car back in 2013 and they wanted to combine “contemporary Swedish lifestyle and design with iconic elements from Volvo cars of the 1960s”. Well it looks like they have done exactly that with this concept car. Under the hood we find a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine and an electric motor that allows this hybrid to deliver nearly 400 hp in total. The interior of the car is extremely stylish and Volvo put their best foot forward with this car. While there is more performance to be desired, in terms of design and luxury, this car is definitely on par with the Aston Martin’s and Maserati’s of the world. If you were to remove the branding, your average car enthusiast would probably be surprised to learn that this is a Volvo.

Volvo S80

The S80

First introduced in 1998, Volvo’s S80 is the brands current flagship saloon car, and arguably one of their best. Like the other Volvo’s, it’s fairly affordable at $41,700 dollars when you take into consideration what it has to offer. Volvo is all about balance and harmony, as their cars aim to be luxurious, reliable, affordable, safe, and packed with features. The 4-door car is either available with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, or the more powerful 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylidner engine that delivers 300 hp. If you opt for the more expensive all-wheel-drive model, suddenly you have an impressive vehicle on your hands. The interior offers genuine leather seats, real wood trim, an advanced entertainment system,  and more. With the options for an obstacle detection system, lane keeping assist, forward collision warning, and Volvo’s IntelliSafe technology, not only is the S80 luxurious, but it is also one of the safest cars that you can buy.

Volvo XC90 Lounge Concept

The XC90 “Lounge Concept”

The XC90 is Volvo’s high-end, flagship SUV and earlier this year we saw the brand release an incredible concept version of the car. Luxury car sales are at all-time highs, and this is especially true in Asian markets. In China, a luxury car is all about one that you are chauffeured in. So Volvo wanted to design a car that’s incredible to be driven in, and thus the XC90 “Lounge Concept” was born. Take one look at this picture, and you can see that this is easily the most luxurious car that Volvo has ever produced. The performance and features are the same as the standard XC90, but this version obviously has a different interior. Volvo removed the front passenger seat to make way for their “lounge console”. With it’s massaging chair made from leather, the large foot rest, the 17-inch multimedia screen, the built-in collapsable desk, and the champagne cooler (among other amenities), this car is certainly quite something. These are the types of amenities found on private business jets or Rolls-Royce’s, and it is absolutely insane. While it remains to be just a concept, it will most likely hit production sometime soon. When you design a car as excellent as this one, it’s a sin to not produce it. Seriously, this arguably has more room than modern day Bentley’s, and with the features and amenities to match, it’s hard to not include this car on our list.
