Deadmau5 Turns Heads with his Vinyl Wrap on his McLaren P1

When high-end car manufacturers release a vehicle with a price tag upwards of $1 million dollars, they typically have though out through all the details. Usually, owners do not modify their expensive and premium supercars, but every now and then, some people like to tinker with their vehicles. If there was anyone that excelled at altering their high-end sports cars, it would be Canadian electronic musician and producer Joel Zimmerman, aka deadmau5. He’s one of the most financially successful and prominent musicians in the electronic music scene, and he certainly loves cars. He owns or has owned a variety of expensive vehicles, and typically he likes to alter their appearances. Well he has just recently skinned his McLaren P1, and it looks pretty amazing.

The McLaren P1 is arguably the most advanced hypercar on the planet. The car was produced in limited numbers, and all units have already been sold. Owners paid on average (depending on their desired options) around $1.6 million dollars for this vehicle. The P1 features the most advanced driving technologies and materials around, but the most attractive feature is the performance. It’s a hybrid-hypercar that has both a 3.8-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine and an electric motor. It offers a total of 903 bhp and the car can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 2.8 seconds, in addition to being able to achieve speeds of 217 mph. It’s certainly an advanced and expensive vehicle. At that price, you don’t really want to be altering the vehicle too much. Well this is where vinyl wraps come it. They allow you to effectively change the vehicles appearance, without repainting or altering the car. Essentially they just put massive vinyl stickers that cover the car to alter its appearance. Deadmau5 turned to the company Sekanskin for the wrap, as their portfolio is quite impressive. They have designed wraps in the past for deadmau5, and the newest one looks really good.

This is the newest skin on his P1, and we have to admit, it looks amazing. It’s probably the most subtle wrap that he has used on one of his cars. Sekanskin designed the wrap from the ground up, and it covers the entirety of the vehicle. The wrap is matte black in color, which is then offset by orange detailing. The advantage of vinyl wraps would be that they allow you to “decorate” the car in pretty much any way that you want, as they can print anything on vinyl. So when you go to sell your car down the line, you can simply remove the wrap and the car will retain its value. Usually a vinyl wrap doesn’t change how much you can get for it down the line, but that’s not the case for deadmau5’s vinyl choice. While this new wrap certainly looks cool, it’s the “tamest” one we’ve seen him use.

Before Sekanskin put on the black wrap for deadmau5, his McLaren P1 used to look like this. This was another skin that they made for deadmau5, and it is definitely “bold” to say the least. Known as the “Ace of Spades” wrap, deadmau5 outfitted his P1 with this wrap to prepare his car fro the 2015 Gumboil 3000 Rally that was held in Las Vegas awhile ago. This just show you how versatile these vinyl wraps are, as you can effectively change the cars looks to nearly anything, without it being permeant. Of course, it’s not cheap to order a custom vinyl wrap for a $1.6 million dollar hypercar, but you get the point. Still as interesting as these wraps are, they don’t come close to what deadmau5 used to have on his old Ferrari 458.

DeadMau5 Ferrari 458

Awhile ago, deadmau5 completely customized his Ferrari 458 to look like this. He called it the “Purrari”, and it was certainly the most, uh, interesting Ferrari that we’ve seen. Obviously it’s extremely silly looking, but it was his car, so he can do whatever he likes with it right? Well as it turns out, not really. Ferrari is a very particular car manufacturer, and you even have to be “approved” by them in order to buy one of their vehicles. Well when they got wind of his Purrari, Ferrari actually sent deadmau5 a cease and desist letter. This put him off from the brand, so he took the wrap off and eventually sold his 458. It was this factor that drove him to purchase a McLaren, as McLaren is more lenient and understanding when individuals want to wrap their cars in funky designs. So deadmau5 certainly likes to decorate his expensive vehicles, usually in very extreme ways. His newest wrap is definitely great looking, but who knows how long he will keep it, as he periodically likes to change it up.
