Ryan Gosling, 33, is a Canadian actor, director, writer, and musician who began his career as a child television star in the early 1990s. From 1993 to 1995, Gosling starred in Disney Channel’s Mickey Mouse Club and went on to appear in other family entertainment programs like Are You Afraid of the Dark? (1995), Goosebumps (1996), Breaker High (1997-98), and Young Hercules (1998-99). Gosling’s first starring film role was in 2001’s The Believer, where he played a neo-Nazi, and spent the early part of his film career playing main roles in independent films. Gosling garnered mainstream attention in 2004 with a leading role in the romantic drama The Notebook and has since starred in a number of acclaimed films including Half Nelson, Lars and the Real GirlBlue ValentineDrive, and The Place Beyond the Pines. 5. Fracture – $91.4 million

Fracture is a 2007 American-German courtroom thriller directed by Gregory Hoblit that stars Gosling alongside Anthony Hopkins. Gosling plays Willie Beachum, a young assistant district attorney who gets locked in a battle of wits with accused attempted murderer Ted Crawford (Hopkins). The film received generally positive reviews and was a box office success.

4. Gangster Squad – $105.2 million

Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Gangster Squad is a 2013 American film noir starring Gosling and fellow co-stars Josh Brolin, Nick Nolte, Emma Stone, and Sean Penn. The film is loosely based on the Los Angeles Police Department officers and detectives who formed the “Gangster Squad” unit in an attempt to combat Mickey Cohen (Penn) and his gang. The film received mixed reviews.

3. The Notebook – $115.6 million

The Notebook, a 2004 American romantic drama based on the Nicholas Sparks novel of the same name, starred Gosling in his mainstream breakout role. The film follows the romantic journey of Noah Calhoun (Gosling) and Allison Hamilton (Rachel McAdams) through the 1930s and 1940s. The Notebook received mixed reviews but won all six Teen Choice Awards it was nominated for and even won Best Kiss at the 2005 MTV Movie Awards.

2. Remember the Titans – $136.7 million

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Remember the Titans is a 2000 sports drama based on the true story of African American coach Herman Boone (played by Denzel Washington) who successfully introduced a racially divided football team to a small Virginia town. Gosling had a minor role as defensive back Alan Bosley, but Remember the Titans received positive reviews and was a strong box office success.

1. Crazy, Stupid, Love – $142.9 million

Crazy, Stupid, Love is a 2011 romantic comedy starring Gosling, Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone, John Carroll Lynch, Marisa Tomei, Analeigh Tipton, and Kevin Bacon. The plot follows a struggling Cal Weaver (Carell), who is coached by womanizer Jacob Palmer (Gosling), in his attempt to get over his divorce. The film received favorable reviews and was commercially successful. Gosling was even nominated for a Golden Globe Award for his role in the film.
