Monster films have always existed since the dawn of Hollywood (and even before then, really), but vampire movies, due to the success of books and TV series like TwilightTrue Blood, and The Vampire Diaries, have become even more popular than other types of horror films in recent years. However, you might wonder, how well do these vampire movies actually do at the box office? Well, here are some answers. These are the highest grossest vampire movies of all-time.

5. Bram Stoker’s Dracula – $215,862,692

While Bram Stoker’s Dracula (even though the movie hardly resembles the novel) didn’t do too well at movie theaters in the U.S., only making around $82 million, it was a pretty big success overseas, raking in over $133 million, more than 60% of its worldwide gross. The film, which received fairly positive reviews, was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and featured Gary Oldman as the titular Dracula, Winona Ryder as Mina, and Anthony Hopkins as Van Helsing.

4. Interview with the Vampire – $223,664,608

More than any other film on this list, Interview with the Vampire achieved its success because of its cast. The film starred the recognizable names (and faces) of Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Christian Slater, and while the movie only received mixed reviews at best, those actors (plus the fact the movie was an adaptation of book, ensuring that it already a somewhat built-in fan base) ensured that it was able to make over $100 million both domestically and overseas, totaling in just above $223 million and thus making it one of the more popular and successful vampire movies ever.

3. Van Helsing – $300,257,475

Despite below average reviews, Van Helsing was able to be quite successful at the box office when it was released in 2004. The film made over $120 million domestically and over $300 million in total worldwide, and much of the reason behind Van Helsing‘s popularity was its lead actor. Hugh Jackman had just been in X2, which had come out a year earlier and is what many regard as the best X-Men film, was starting to see his career as an action star really start to take off. Jackman was the star power that drove the film, which didn’t feature too many other recognizable names aside from Jackman’s co-star Kate Beckinsale.

2. Hotel Transylvania – $358,375,603

I would have never expected to see a kids’ vampire movie making this list, but Hotel Transylvania was a pretty remarkable success worldwide. In fact. the movie made almost 60% of its money from foreign theaters and only 42% from domestic. Overall, Hotel Transylvania grossed almost $360 million worldwide, making it one of the top grossing vampire movies of all-time, a pretty impressive feat for an animated feature. A lot of Hotel Transylvania‘s viewers probably came for the work of its voice actors. Recognizable names like Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, and even Steve Buscemi all voiced roles in the film.

1. The Twilight Saga – $3,345,177,904

Although The Twilight Saga itself is not just one movie, all of the Twilight films have out grossed the other four movies on this list, and to have all five of the highest grossest vampire movies be from the same franchise would have been a bit redundant and boring. Overall, worldwide, The Twilight Saga made over $3 billion, and individually, all five of the films made over $350 million worldwide. Here’s how it breaks down. Twilight earned $392,616,625. New Moon brought in $709,827,462 at the box office. Eclipse $698,491,347 grossed worldwide. Breaking Dawn Part 1 made $712,171,856 and Breaking Dawn Part 2 was the highest grossing of all of them with $829,685,377. Despite a lack of critical praise, the Twilight films did quite well for themselves commercially, becoming one of the highest grossing movie franchises of all-time.
