The Five Largest Water Brands in the United States

P.S. ARTS Presents: LA Modernism Show Opening Night

Bottled water has grown into a decently sized market over the past decade and now there are tons of choices in grocery stores and pharmacies for a simple product like water. All of the different water companies have their different histories, production processes, and benefits to try and pull consumers into purchasing their brand over others, but sometimes this doesn’t always work. Let’s take a look at the five largest water brands in the United States.

5. Glaceau Smartwater

Smartwater is made by the company Glaceau, who also produces the Vitamin Water products. The company started in 1996 and creates great drink products; however, their Smartwater has a rather interesting production process. The company creates a proprietary filtration process that removes everything aside from the base components of hydrogen and oxide. After this, the water has electrolytes and some other ingredients added back in to create Smartwater. The Glaceau company is a part of the Coca-Cola family and brings in hundreds of millions each year.

4. Poland Spring

Poland Spring was founded back in 1945 and creates water that was “born better”. The company is a part of Nestle and (some) of the water actually does come from the Poland Spring in Maine along with a couple of other springs in the area. The company has recently been making a push to go greener and reduce the amount of plastic in their bottles, which has been a massive Nestle campaign for all of their products. Poland Spring is a staple water brand and sells more than enough every year.

3. Aquafina

Aquafina is the PepsiCo brand of water that was introduced by the company back in 1994. This purified water is offered in flavors if consumers want to change things up every once in awhile and give their water some kick. Aquafina was essentially a direct response to compete with Coca-Cola and their Dasani products, but now Aquafina has grown into a dominant water brand in the market.

2. Nestle Waters Pure Life

Nestle already owns the Poland Springs bottled water company, but they also put out their Nestle branded water; Pure Life. The water was first released in 2002 and is produced by the Aberfoyle Springs company, which was a company purchased by Nestle in 2000.

1. Dasani

Dasani is the Coca-Cola company’s main bottled water product that they began releasing in 1999. The company has made the product very eco-friendly and has expanded to multiple continents including the United Kingdom, Latin America, and Canada. Dasani brings in hundreds of millions for the Coca-Cola Company and is a very valuable asset for the company.
