Amazon Invades the Big Apple By Opening Brick-and-Mortar Store With Same Day Delivery

Amazon Fulfillment Center Opens In San Bernardino

Amazon.com was a company that rose to prominence as more and more people left retail stores and performed their shopping online. They are now one of the largest and one of the most well known online retailer of goods. Through the use of modern day technology and logistics, the company is able to operate across the world. The company became so successful that it even has broken into the cell phone industry, albeit not very well, but it is still worth mentioning. Well as Amazon has always made a push away from retail stores and consumers can often find better prices through Amazon.com, the company is about to open its first physical store ever.

It has recently come out that Amazon it will be opening its first physical retail store in the history of the company in Manhattan, New York as reported by The Wall Street Journal. Amazon felt that in order to maintain its strong brand loyalty and keep customers satisfied they should open up a physical, retail store. With a physical store customers will have a face-to-face experience with Amazon employees, something that most users of Amazon have never experienced. Many people still prefer to see objects in person before they buy so Amazon wanted to offer its customers that option. The store in New York will sort of be an experiment for the company to see how it works. The store will be located in a prime position that is very close to the Empire State Building. The store is expected to function more as a retail warehouse that will allow consumers to receive same-day delivery for certain products as customers will be able to pick up the package they ordered online within the store (for New York City only). The store will also handle returns and exchanges, allowing for better customer service.

Since Amazon was created more consumers ended up purchasing their products online rather than in a store because, as previously mentioned, they are often less expensive on Amazon. Amazon offers lower prices because they company has less overhead to deal with than traditional retail stores. However many retail stores will match the prices of Amazon in order to stay competitive. So Amazon wants to combat that buy opening up this physical store and will see how it goes. Since the company is very large and has a consistent rate of customers, the store should, in theory, be successful. Rumors have the first Amazon store to be open sometime soon before the major holidays.
