The Least Expensive Cars in the World

Tata Motors Displays Its Nano Car

What was your first car? I remember distinctly getting my driver’s license at 16 and getting the keys to an old white Volvo. At the time, it might as well have been a Ferrari because I was just so amped to have a car and be driving independently. I was extremely fortunate – Volvo is a great brand and a really good car to start driving with. It’s not even the cheapest car. By no means am I implying that every teenager should start in one of the cheapest cars in the world, but it’s not a bad idea. Before you start reading the list of Least Expensive Cars in the World let’s preface these cars. First, Geely is a Chinese automotive company in China that sells five different brands of cars. Included in their portfolio are some of the cheapest rides out there. Secondly, I bet you these cheap rides are as durable as any car out there.

5.) Geely HQ SRC – $5,780

This little ride is five doors. You can get this ride with two 3-cylinder engines good for either 52 and 55 HP. You’re clearly not going to be dusting anyone, but it’s better than nothing. The gas mileage isn’t too bad on this guy either. The website says 36 mpg – for $5 grand you can’t really complain can you!

4.) Geely MR – $5,500

The Geely MR is known as the “sporty Geely”. It’s another five door vehicle, but this one is 4-cylinders and can get you up to 86 HP. It still will get you about 35 mpg, but you’ll definitely look a lot cooler in this ride!

3.) Suzuki Maruti 800 – $4,994

The Suzuki Maruti was the reigning champ for being the “smallest car in production” until it was recently dethroned. Everything about it is small even its 3-cylinder, 45 HP engine. The good news is this little guy can get you up to 40 mpg, which makes it not only the smallest ride out there, but overall one of the cheapest.

2.) Chery QQ – $4,781

Cute name for a cute little car. The Chery can be found mainly in China, Iran and Sri Lanka. For a long time this little 3-cylinder, 51 HP ride was the cheapest car on the market before being replaced. The mileage isn’t totally clear on the website, but it looks like this guy can get up to 47 mpg.

1.) Tata Nano – $2,497

Leave it to Tata to come up with the cheapest, smallest, most perfect little car on the planet. The Nano is a little 2-cylinder, 33 HP ride that can rock up to 47 mpg. The fuel economy is complimented by the car being a extremely environmentally friendly. The Nano is starting to make its way around the world, which means you’ll be seeing it in the states sometime soon for sure.
