Every year at BaselWord we see the leaders in the watchmaking industry unveil their latest and greatest products, typically all of which are extremely expensive and high-end timepieces. Well no one thought that we would see a robot being unveiled, but that’s exactly what the guys over at MB&F did as they showed off “Melchior”, a $35,750 robot that can tell you the time.

MB&F are well-known for their unique and expensive timepieces that are always very futuristic, cutting-edge, and modern. Well its no mystery that they are a fan of science fiction, so for their 10-year anniversary they have delivered this extremely unique robot clock. Standing at 12-inches tall, Melchior is a table top clock that is very much a mechanical robot. Some 480 components have gone into the Swiss-made clock alone, and it is certainly as impressive as it is original.

The mechanical robot clock is certainly very interesting and very unique. Melchior has a 40-day power reserve which is very good, and it’s also enjoyable to wind it back up. To wind it you must detach the machine gun arm that acts as the clocks winding key. The time is displayed via two discs on the front, with the minute disc constantly sweeping. On top of Melchior we find a dome that displays the clocks regulator that is constantly beating and in motion. Additionally the robots eyes act as a retrograde and change ever 20 seconds. The arms of the robot can also be maneuvered into a variety of different positions so you can make it look like its pointing its gun at you.

Melchior is certainly an interesting and fun table clock that is definitely a talking piece. The only downside is that it costs $35,750 dollars and only 99 are being produced in total. Check out this video to see more:
