Maximilian Büsser & Friends is best known for their extremely unique and envelope-pushing timepieces and one of their most recent creations, the Legacy Machine Perpetual, aims to reinvent the perpetual calendar. At first glance it seems like the most traditional watch from the company, however it’s what’s inside this watch that counts.
Perpetual calendars used in timepieces are some of the most impressive and revolutionary movements out there, as they display both the day and month and can even account for leap years. You simply set the watch once, and the movement does all the work from there. However they are not without problems as they can often skip dates, are easily damaged, and can even get jammed. However the 581-component movement within the Legacy Machine Perpetual solves all of those issues.
MB&F collaborated with Irish watchmaker Stephen McDonnell to create this amazing timepiece, and we’ve got to hand it to them, they’ve done an incredible job. Aside from the fact that its perpetual calendar is essentially flawless, this beautiful watch has much to offer even the most discerning collector.
The Legacy Machine Perpetual comes in either a version made from 18K red gold or a version made from platinum 950, so already we have extremely premium materials. It’s perpetual calendar and movement allow it to accurately display the hours, minutes, day, retrograde date, month, and even the retrograde leap year. It has a 72 hour power reserve, 41 jewels, a bespoke balance wheel, sapphire glass, an alligator leather strap, and more.
However aside from all of those great features, the watch is just absolutely beautiful to look at. The dial is intricate and complex, but you really cannot appreciate it unless you see it in action. In total, MB&F will only be producing just 25 examples of the rose gold version and 25 examples of the platinum version. The gold models will retail for $145,000 dollars while the platinum ones will sell for $176,000 dollars. It may appear to be their most “tame” creation, however this impressive new perpetual calendar leaves absolutely nothing to be desired.
