The MB&F Arachnophobia Is A Unique Desktop Clock That Looks Like a Spider

If there’s one thing that we can always count on MB&F to do, it’s to be extremely unique. This watch brand has produced some of the most complex and fascinating timepieces in recent memory, and their “Arachnophobia” is yet another standout product. It’s a sort of desktop clock that has been designed to look like a spider, and it’s probably one of the stranger products we’ve seen from them.

The Arachnophobia was inspired by a massive spider sculpture called “Maman” that was created by Louise Bourgeois. MB&F’s founder, Maximilian Büsser loved this sculpture in particular, which is why they wanted to create this piece as a sort of way to pay homage to Maman.

MB&F worked with L’Epée to create this unusual and unique piece, and it’s certainly something that will turn heads. The body of the spider is a black dome with white numbers which acts as the clocks face, and you can even see the complex movement as well. The head of the spider holds the clocks regulator and oscillating balance wheel, while the abdomen holds the mainspring barrel that acts as the movements power source.

Attached to the body of Arachnophobia are eight legs, just like a spider, which can be moved and arranged allowing you to position the piece in a variety of different ways. You can even hang the clock on the wall, if you so choose. The piece features some 218 different components, 11 jewels, an 8-day power reserve, a shock protecting system, and more. All of these pieces come together in a way that works just perfectly, and the Arachnophobia is yet another great example of what MB&F is all about.

The Arachnophobia is available in either black or a version with 18-karat gold plates, both of which are quite appealing. We haven’t received any word on how much they cost, but given the fact that the brand creates watches that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, we imagine that Arachnophobia is quite expensive, to say the least.
