While Star Wars merchandise has always been successful among fans, a company known as Devon Works believes that people will spend $28,500 dollars on a Star Wars watch as they have just recently created one. From Los Angeles, Devon Works is a design firm that has created a few products, primarily timepieces. Their watches are known for their complex and aggressive styling, and their newest Star Wars watch fits perfectly with their design language. Inspired almost solely by Darth Vader, the Devon Star Wars watch might probably be the first high-end, Star Wars timepiece ever made. At $28,500 dollars we are certainly in the “luxury” market here, and that kind of money can get you a lot of premium timepieces from other brands. So what exactly makes the Devon Star Wars watch special?
While a watch is theoretically supposed to be a “functional” item, one of the main driving factors involved with purchasing a timepiece would be it’s design, and this design is quite unique. If you’re familiar with Star Wars, then you immediately recognize that the watch looks like Darth Vader. It’s an all-black timepiece that features a strap that looks like the villains gloves, it has the Imperial crest on the knob, and a case taken almost directly from Darth Vader’s helmet and his spaceship. Throw in a case that’s design like a Tie Fighter, and you’ve got a watch that intrigues even the most hardcore Star Wars fan.
The timepiece uses four time belts to indicate the time, and that’s a feature you have to see for yourself to truly appreciate. It has four micro step motors, 313 electrical contacts, and 350 individual parts. Additionally it features 316L stainless steel, a scratch-resistant lens that’s bulletproof, ruby bearings, titanium fasteners, an onboard microprocessor, a rechargeable battery that lasts two weeks, and more. Make no mistake, this is certainly a high-quality timepiece with a price to match. The watch measures out to be 66.3 x 61.2 x 22.1 millimeters, so it’s fairly large when on the wrist. But this is a watch that you want people to notice, and boy will they see it.
The watch is currently available for preorder on their site, and it will be a limited edition timepiece as Devon Works will only be producing just 500 examples in total. Additionally the Devon Star Wars watch comes with matching Tie Fighter cufflinks, so you can attend dinner parties in true Star Wars fashion. While the watch is very interesting, I’m not sure I’d buy it if I had $28,500 dollars of disposable income on hand. Don’t get me wrong, I love Star Wars, but that’s a lot of money to spend on a watch when I’d rather get something a bit more fashionable from a Swiss brand. Regardless, if you want the most premium Star Wars watch ever created, the Devon Star Wars watch is exactly that.
