High-end hotels and resorts will try to do everything there is to offer their guests the most luxurious and comfortable experience imaginable. They have multiple restaurants, large rooms, and are typically located on a beach somewhere nice. But what if you’re hotel or resort wasn’t really a hotel, but actually a palace? Well that’s exactly what The Oberoi, Udaivilas is, a palace.
Oberoi Hotels & Resorts is an Indian hospitality company that has properties throughout the world, primarily in the east. All of their locations are incredible, but their location in Udaipur, India is something else. It was recently ranked as the best hotel in the world by Travel + Leisure, and we can definitely see why. Let’s take a quick look at this exceptional property.
The Oberoi, Udaivilas is located just outside the city of Udaipur on the banks of Lake Pichola. It lies on the 200-year-old hunting grounds of the Maharana of Mewar, and the property spans over 50-acres in total. And the property even includes a 20-acre wildlife sanctuary as well. As soon as you see The Oberoi, Udaivilas, you just know this resort is something quite special. The entire property has been designed like a luxurious Indian palace, and it certainly feels like one because it’s obviously a five-star hotel and resort. In terms of design, location, and architecture, this is one of the most beautiful looking hotels that I’ve ever seen. It’s a resort that could only be located in India, and you cannot deny that it looks like something out of a dream.
From the air you can truly appreciate just how absolutely massive this resort is, and given it’s size, it offers all the features you’d expect from a resort of this nature. They offer three different restaurants, an 83-foot swimming pool, luxurious gardens and plazas to stroll through, a fitness center, butler service, a full-service spa, boat tours of the lake, an expert staff, yoga classes, and much more. This is one of the nicest hotels in the world, so naturally it’s going to be packed with features and amenities.
As you can already see, The Oberoi, Udaivilas is absolutely massive. Given the size of the property and all the features available, there’s no mistaking this hotel for a small one. And that leads us to arguably the best part of the hotel. Despite it’s massive property and size, there are only just 87 rooms and suites here. 50-acres for just 87 rooms all together. This is truly a palace in every sense of the word. Pretty much every room also comes with its own private pool as well, and obviously all of the other hotel room features that you’d come to expect (marble bathrooms, television sets, great views, etc). Just don’t expect a deal on a room. Depending on when you come, rooms can range in price from $680 dollars per night for the most basic rooms to upwards of $12,000 dollars per night for their largest suite.
No matter how you look at it, The Oberoi, Udaivilas is just plain exceptional. Modern hotels and resorts attempt to offer palatial-like features. Oberoi Hotels just decided to go ahead and actually build a palace. That’s the real draw here: you’re basically staying in a palace that would usually be reserved for royalty. Sure it’s expensive, but I mean, come on! Just look at this place! They offer everything you could want in a high-end resort, and then go above and beyond expectations. Depending on where you live in the world, traveling here will obviously be a bit of a journey. But if you want to experience the beauties of India in style and one of the top hotels in the world, this is the place to stay.
