It was Only a Matter of Time before Auto-Lacing Sneakers Became Reality

Everyone whose seen the iconic Back to The Future films remembers the iconic scene where Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) goes into the future and puts on a pair of Nike sneakers which instantly tighten and tie themselves automatically. Nike even made these shoes years later called the “Nike Mag’s” in a limited quantity of 1,500 pairs. They were put up for auction and all proceeds went to the Michael J. Fox foundation for parkinson diseases, however these shoes did not tie themselves. I know I really wanted a pair, however the shoes were sold for anywhere between $10,000 and as high as $90,000 dollars. Well a Kickstarter campaign has recently popped up with some shoes that will tie themselves, dubbed the “Powerlace Advanced Auto-Lacing Shoe Technology“.

These shoes are being produced by Fredrick Labbe and The Powerteam out of Canada and they hope to raise $650,000 dollars to make these shoes a reality. The company exclaims that “The new Powerlace auto-lacing system is the most effective means of tying shoelaces the hands-free way”. There are no batteries are motors in the shoes, only a lever that is activated when you step down on the heel, which activates the cable and tying systems that tightens the shoe. The shoe itself has been tested in laboratories and is made of high-quality materials that are weather proof. Since there are no electronic components or motors, the shoe itself is very lightweight and perfect for various athletic activities. Another benefit of this shoe is that one would never have to worry about them coming untied.

If you jump on the bandwagon, these shoes can be yours for $175, and you get a free t-shirt. Once those sell out the shoes will cost $195. The shoes come in black with orange, green, blue, or black accents. Head on over to their Kickstarter page here.
