Since the United States shares a border with Mexico, we tend to get some pretty great Mexican restaurants and food. Mexican cuisines is definitely one of the more popular foreign cuisines that people eat in this country, so much so that regular Americans will cook tacos and other dishes for their family even if they aren’t Mexican. Every year many Mexican restaurants are reviewed and some are better than others. There are certainly a large number of Mexican restaurants in the country to choose from, but here are five that are some of the top rated.

5. Mesa Coyoacán – Brooklyn, New York

The people that will tell you “there is no good Mexican food up north” have never been to New York City as that simply is not true. Mesa Coyoacán is located in East Williamsburg and they serve up some great food that is a combination of traditional Mexican street food and chef Ivan Garcia’s grandmothers recipes. Williamsburg is certainly a great area of the city and this is a solid choice for Mexican food.

4. Hugo’s – Houston, Texas

Located in a building dating back to 1925, Hugo’s offers a very special atmosphere. Chef Hugo Ortega, a Mexican native, has had experiences with cooking and restaurants in both Mexico City and Houston, so you know he can deliver some exceptional dishes. One of his standout dishes would be the braised pork shoulder.

3. El Pinto – Albuquerque, New Mexico

El Pinto is one of your classic, family-styled Mexican restaurants. It’s located on 12 acres of scenic land and they even have their own salsa factory. There are five patios to dine at and the have over 140 different types of tequila. When you eat here, you will forget that you are in the United States.

Mi Tierra Cafe y Panaderia has been offering some amazing Mexican cuisine since 1941. The restaurant has a high standing in the local community, and their dishes are to die for. The offer traditional Mexican food and also you favorite Tex-Mex dishes.

1. Las Casuelas Terraz – Pal Springs, California

Situated in a massive, mansion-like building, Las Casuelas Terraz offers some very special dishes. The restaurants atmosphere is very Mexican and you might forget where you are for a second. All the dishes are based from family recipes that have been passed down over the years and their margaritas menu is to die for.
